UNIque@dance

UNIque@dance seeks to encourage and support public dance academies and universities to widen their offerings toward professionalising aspiring dancers with disabilities. In collaboration with the institutions, the project aims to develop concepts, strategies, practical approaches and implementations to this end.

Key aspects include making the subjects in the curriculum and university facilities accessible, and demonstrating the added value for all involved in opening up degree programs to people with various disabilities. UNIque@dance also explores the implications and opportunities for anti-ableist and diversity-conscious training and teaching methods.

The UNIque@dance team is engaged in intensive dialogue with the two dance training colleges in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Institute for Contemporary Dance (IZT) at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and the Centre for Contemporary Dance (ZZT) at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.

This has resulted in various cooperation formats.

These include research-oriented workshops (UniTanks) with teachers and students, guest lectureships and teach-the-teacher training courses.

Formats

To date, UNIque@dance has initiated and implemented the following formats, collaborations, research steps and events:

MoveTanks

Research formats for the inclusive teaching of classical dance techniques such as ballet, modern and contemporary for all body types

Symposiums / professional exchange days

Exchange with various institutions, companies and dance professionals.

UniTanks

Open process-oriented collaboration with universities has resulted in context-specific formats such as teach-the-teacher, a practice-oriented reflective workshop and various guest lectureships. They were developed in dialogue and implemented according to individual requirements.

ThinkTanks

Open lecture and discussion formats to highlight non-normative body images in dance.

Events

Participation and networking at specialist events.
