EXHIBITION

prostheses, bodies and visions

Modern prostheses are technical masterpieces. Artificial hands are activated by muscle signals from the forearm. Replacement knees bend and stretch by way of a virtuoso interplay of muscles, microchips and motors.

Body and prosthetics are connected in a way that literally gets under your skin, as technological progress awakens the hope for functionality, mobility and participation, but also raises concerns, discomfort and unanswered questions. Can a prosthesis be better than the human original? When does a person become a cyborg? Is it acceptable to forego this form of self-optimization?

The exhibition techNOlimits provides a glimpse of what is currently possible, reflects on different perspectives and dares to take a look into the future.

The shimmering transparent world of digital possibilities seduces our senses and sweeps us away into the glittering distance and dazzling dimensions.

Our data is rapidly woven into a fabric of its own, extending well beyond the boundaries of our imagination.

Space and time expand into infinity and evaporate into illusions—eliciting quiet smiles of satisfaction and promising the fulfilment of all our desires and longings.

Microchips and implants are inserted into our organism to improve the parameters for our health. Sophisticated chip-controlled leg and myoelectric arm prostheses open up new horizons onto the still inconceivable possibilities of "technical physicalities". The vision of a ideal norm arises and our everyday microcosm mutates into a world of unbridled possibility. Fiction becomes reality as technologically improved "hybrid" human beings are created based on the ideal norm.
