The film MOVEMENT UNBOUND has been invited to DOK.fest Munich, where it will have its world premiere on
May 7, 2026, at 8:00 p.m.
We couldn’t have wished for a better venue for the premiere: DOK.fest Munich is Germany’s largest documentary film festival and one of the most important platforms for documentary film in Europe. It is a wonderful honour that the film will be screened there. There will be four screenings of the film at the festival.
And not only has MOVEMENT UNBOUND made it into the festival programme, the film has also been nominated for the All Inclusive Award for film productions in which filmmakers with disabilities play a leading role.
The Cologne premiere of MOVEMENT UNBOUND will follow in June, and we are currently planning a major cinema tour that will take us to several cities and numerous schools. We are so very much looking forward to making MOVEMENT UNBOUND accessible to a wide audience over the course of the year!
MOVEMENT UNBOUND is also available to watch online as part of DOK.fest 2026!
If you can’t attend the in-person screenings, you can now purchase an online ticket for the film and stream MOVEMENT UNBOUND. This offer is available until May 25. Just like tickets for the in-person screenings, streaming tickets can be easily purchased via the MOVEMENT UNBOUND festival website:

Since its inception, DIN A 13 tanzcompany has been questioning how open our society really is. Who is given the space to express themselves and who is marginalized? The company explores these questions through its artistic practice, the body, movement, dance, irritation, transgression and political stance.
MOVEMENT UNBOUND shows the various facets of the company's work, both sensual and political. The kinetic energy of dance meets intimate human stories. Movement becomes language and bodies become attitude. The film provides exclusive insights into the fascinating history of DIN A 13 tanzcompany, the work of which began with 13 people, including musicians and dancers.
Over the years, a professional team developed around founder Gerda König and her artistic and conceptual companion Gitta Roser — including Anastasia Olfert, John Herrmann, and Andrea Hoffmann, among others. Over the years, their journey together took them to dance stages all over the world. Over 40 productions were created — many of them in co-production with various Goethe Institutes — and shown at international dance festivals.
In collaboration with artists and festivals in Asia, Africa, North and South America, the company developed extraordinary dance theatre pieces. This gave rise to international artistic dialogues with a lasting impact. New mixed-abled dance companies were formed in several countries, many of which still exist today.
MOVEMENT UNBOUND also highlights the company's current work, as the film crew accompanied the team as they worked on their latest project, MYspace SAFEspace NOspace.
To this end, artistic director Gerda König brought together dancers with physical disabilities and performers from the ballroom scene — a subculture in which queer people and people of colour have created safe spaces for self-empowerment.
Dance films have been around since the dawn of cinema. The camera loves movement and it loves bodies. MOVEMENT UNBOUND continues this tradition and breaks with it at the same time. This is more than just a dance film. It is a moving journey into the lives of dancers with and without disabilities who, through the art of dance, change our perception of diversity in society.
